Baby Wipe Comparison

When we found out we were pregnant I remember standing in the baby aisle staring at over half a dozen brands of baby wipes and feeling overwhelmed. To you that may seem incredibly trivial, however, to a soon to be first time mom it seemed like a monumental decision.

Now that my hormones have slowed down I realize that choosing a wipe brand truly isn’t a life or death situation. However, that doesn’t mean that I haven’t developed an opinion! I have tried several brands and here is what I think of them.

Honest Company (72 count for $4.99)

The Honest Company Wipe is definitely my favorite. One thing I love about these wipes is that they are textured. I feel like that makes it a little easier for some cleanup jobs. These wipes also have the prettiest packaging- I know in the grand scheme that means nothing. However, I love it! Lastly, the Honest Company wipes are entirely plant based. The biggest drawback though is the price. This is the most expensive wipe I have tried.

Pampers Sensitive Baby Wipes (64 count for $2.42)

This is my second favorite wipe! I have so far only used the “sensitive” line. There are a few other options within that brand though.  One great thing about the pampers wipes is that there is a reward code system (though, admittedly, it takes a ton of points for small rewards).  They are thicker than other wipes i’ve tried, stay moist, and the packaging is a good quality.

Huggies Natural Care Baby Wipes (64 count for $2.42)

Like the Honest wipes, these were also textured. They were also the thinnest wipes. However, I don’t think that necessarily effected the performance of the wipe.  It still worked better than the Target brand. I just preferred the thicker wipes. This brand also has several other “types” under the Huggies brand name.

Up & Up Unscented Baby Wipes (72 count for $1.59)

Overall this is my least favorite brand so far. The top of the plastic container pops off if you hit it even the slightest. I have knocked the lid off and spilt all the wipes out twice just this week.  Also, the wipes as a whole are rather dry and each individual wipe is thin. It is the best deal financially, however the few cents it saves isn’t worth sacrificing quality. (And honestly, you have to use more per diaper so I don’t think it actually saves money).

Babyganics Unscented Baby Wipes (400 count for $14.99)

These wipes were nice because they were also plant based. However, unlike the Honest Co wipes, these had zero texture. They also felt more on the thin side. The smallest package you can buy of these wipes (at Target) is the 400 count box. However, that makes it within half a cent per wipe in comparison to the individual packages of Pampers and Huggies (not the value packs). Also, Babyganics does regularly  offer coupons in the Target Cartwheel app!

Anyways, I hope that this information is helpful to you. Hopefully you’re not stressing the small things like I was! Feel free to comment below what your favorite brand is and why!

“Pink-A-Boo”

Having a baby girl is amazing for a thousand reasons… but one huge one is the adorable clothes! It’s like having a little doll to dress up everyday. (But with a lot more drool). Luckily my sweet girl doesn’t mind all the bows and frills. In fact, when she is bored I just change her outfits and put her in front of the mirror and she stares with wonder! It’s so cute to watch her realize that it’s herself in the mirror every time.

My current favorite outfit is one of her pajama sets by Kate Spade. I think the soft pink and white make her look so cuddly!

I also love the detailing. There are pink bows on the sleeves and then adorable ruffles on her cute booty.  It’s so precious!! The shirt reads “pink-a-boo” and the pants have clouds and sheep.  This is definitely one that I’ll keep for her to pass on to her future daughter.

She’s just too cute not to post a hundred pictures of! Hopefully this adorable, smart girl has brightened your day!

Walmart Infant Baby Box

A few weeks ago I wrote about Walmart’s Baby Box Set. They send you three different gift boxes- one for prenatal, one for a baby, and one for a toddler. Each box contains samples and costs only the five dollars for shipping. Last week I received the second box, my infant box. It contained the following samples and coupons:
Samples:

  • Arm & Hammer Sensitive Laundry Detergent (2.25 fl oz)
  • Aveeno Baby Lotion (1 fl oz)
  • Aveeno Lotion (1 fl oz)
  • Huggies Travel Wipes pack (8 count)
  • Mam Anti-colic bottle
  • 1 Huggies Diaper (size newborn)

Coupons :

  • $3 off huggies diapers
  • $1 off Arm & Hammer Sensitive Laundry Detergent
  • $3 off Pure Bliss formula by Similac
  • $2.50 off of Lysol

We are already fans of Aveeno so I liked the samples! However, I don’t think we will end up using the bottle because I breastfeed and the few times we have used a bottle she likes the Phillips brand. So it was cool, but in this box’s case probably not worth the five dollars it cost to ship. I could have just bought an actual bottle of lotion! That said, I do love getting mail though, so not a total waste haha.
I can’t wait to see what the third and final box contains!!

Two Month Update

I'm a little late on the update, however, this little one crested two months!! It's so insane to me. I can't believe she's so old. She has made every day even more exciting than the last. We are so lucky!

Month two saw her first smile, her first time rolling over, her first road trip, her first apartment fire, and so much more. She has become her own person! She is so strong and engaged in life. It's amazing. I am loving watching her personality develop.

One of my favorite things about her is how much she loves the outdoors. If she gets too fussy you can carry her outside and she calms down as soon as the sun or breeze hits her. I also love how much she wants me! I love that when she's upset she reaches for me, that when others hold her she turns to my voice, and that she's happiest when it's the two of us cuddling! She is everything I could have ever wanted.

At her two month appointment they told us she weighs 10 pounds and one ounce. She is measuring at 21 inches and 7 cm. The doctor said she was incredibly strong too! They said she was in the 10th percentile all the way around- length, weight, and head.

I can't wait to see what crazy developments month three brings! She is the greatest blessing in our life. Our little monkey, our little buttercup, our roly poly Nolie.

Amazon “Free” Baby Welcome Box

Over the course of our pregnancy we tried out several registries! I looked at Buy Buy Baby and Target (which, we ultimately ended up using). However, just for curiosity sake I decided to make an Amazon registry just so I could review the baby gift they send!

The other two registries you just went in store and they give you a bag of goodies. The Amazon option is a little trickier. First of all, you have to have an Amazon Prime account. (One way around this is you could join for their free thirty day trial, but don’t forget about it!) Second, you have to create your registry. However, it’s not as simple as adding a few things you want. They have a very exhaustive check list that is broken into categories and then even farther down. You have to choose something in each category or at least mark that you don’t need it. I think this would be great for a first time mom who is really worried about forgetting something, but otherwise it made me feel like they were just trying to convince me I needed stuff I probably didn’t. Also, you can’t get your free gift until your checklist is totally complete. Finally, you or someone else has to spend at least $10 off of your registry and that item has to ship. Then you can click the button to order your free welcome box. (I just ordered some teething toys that I know we will eventually need).

So it’s kinda complicated! However, it was a fun little box so I guess it was worth it!! You can click here to see their Baby Box FAQ. So I bet you’re wondering what is in the box! Here is what came in ours, though I read it can vary.

  • Pair Avent breast pads w/ breast feeding “guide”
  • Seventh Generation Moisture Lotion sample (0.5 fl oz)
  • Dove Baby Wash sample (1.8 fl oz)
  • Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion sample (1 do oz)
  • Cicaplast Baume sample (2ml)
  • Bliss triple oxygen instant energizing mask sample (.16 fl oz)
  • Pair Munchkin nursing pads
  • Huggies (52 count) wipes
  • Seventh Generation quilted diaper sample (2 count, no size listed, but it looks like a size two)
  • Avent bottle (newborn nipple & 4 oz size)
  • Swaddle Designs swaddling blanket
  • Pamper “travel sample” (1 newborn diaper & sensitive travel wipes- 6 count)

(Our cat, Legalos, was very excited to have a box to play in).

Overall, a cute box. The swaddling blanket and the diapers make it worth spending the $10. However, I still liked the Target goody bag better! It had a lot of the same things, but it also had a TON of coupons that were actually really helpful.

Just a side note, I tried the Bliss Mask, I don’t know if I felt energized, but it smelt amazing. I’ll have to update this once I’ve used it a few times if I see any cool results.

Packing Our Birth Go Bag

Screen Shot 2017-05-13 at 4.20.09 PM

Looking back on my pregnancy, packing our birth bag(s) was so exciting!! I had packed baby Enolia’s weeks in advance, but I had put off packing mine for a while.

When I initially started I wasn’t exactly sure what to bring.  So over the months when anyone gave me a suggestion or I thought of something- I added it to my list. I wanted to include the most repeatedly given advice for anyone else who may want some insight! The following list is the final product:

    Mom:

  • Gown for birthing (optional, if you’re in a traditional hospital you will have a gown provided)
  • Coming home outfit (loose pants or dress)
  • Robe
  • Slippers
  • Face wash
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Brush
  • Contact case and contact solution
  • Hair ties
  • Shampoo & conditioner (mini)
  • Socks (several people suggested compression socks)
  • Granny panties
  • Pads
  • Distractions (book, music, iPad, etc)
  • Nursing pads
  • Nursing cream
  • Nursing bra
  • Dry shampoo
  • Chapstick
  • Gum
  • Essential oils
  • Massage oil

Baby:

  • Coming home outfit
  • Baby onsie
  • Pacifier
  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Blanket/swaddler x 2
  • Burp cloth
  • Car seat
  • Mittens

Dad:

  • Sweatshirt
  • Snacks – Gatorade & food
  • iPad/book (I thought this was a weird recommendation. However, they said afterwards when mom is sleeping and dad can’t he will appreciate it).
  • Toothbrush
  • Pillow (we didn’t need one because they gave us a ton, but some hospital births may)
  • Electronic chargers
  • Extra shirt
  • Deodorant

Miscellaneous:

  • Birth plan
  • Insurance card
  • License
  • Wallets
  • Camera & charger
  • Baby book (footprint)

We ended up packing all of the little one’s stuff in her diaper bag- it’s a gorgeous Kate Spade bag (see a similar bag here). Then we packed all of our stuff in a duffel. The only thing I wish I had done differently is that I packed the bags to the brim. So then when we were trying to leave it was impossible to fit all of the gifts and such in the bags! So I would bring an extra bag or leave some space. Let me know if any of you have any other suggestions you think I should add! I hope you have as much fun packing as I ended up having.

One Month Update

June 18th, 2017.

Wow!!! I can’t believe that my sweet girl is now a month old. It’s so crazy, it feels unreal. Especially since she came three weeks early!

She already has so much personality. She loves taking baths, but hates changing clothes. She also loves to be involved. She uses her arms to push herself up and looks all around! She’s incredibly strong. Nolie is also able to roll onto her stomach! I didn’t know newborns could even do that! (It’s terrifying). One thing I love is that if she is fussy she generally will stop if you sing to her!

This month started out a little rough with the induction (you can read her birth story here) and then her extra night in the hospital (you can read about that here). However, she’s almost back to her birth weight and the jaundice is basically gone!! This month has also seen her first bath, first doctors appointment, first play date with Mia, and first trip to Target. Also, today is her first Father’s Day! So it’s been a pretty busy month.

Little Nolie loves cuddling. I think that’s what I’ll miss the most, how she can just lay on my chest and sleep! It’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever experienced. She hums when she sleeps and it’s heart melting. I can barely stand it! If I had to make a guess, I would say she sleeps probably seventeen hours a day, spends maybe four hours eating, and the last three hours just looking at everything and taking it in.

She is generally a good sleeper, however we’ve definitely had four or five tough nights where she was up every hour! On the flip side- we’ve also had five or six great nights where I’ve gotten about four hours straight. I even had one night where I got a little over five straight hours! It was amazing. She likes to sleep with her hands by her face. Or, if she’s laying on my chest she wraps them up around my neck (well, what she can reach). Before she was born I read so many blogs about how swaddling your baby is super comforting to them. Nolie actually doesn’t like it! You can swaddle her, but if you try to wrap those arms up – almost nothing makes her more mad, or loud!!

The cats are doing really well. Legalos will cuddle with me when I’m holding her, but only if she’s asleep. When she’s awake he keeps his distance. Appa, on the other hand, LOVES her. He’s constantly at her side. He sleeps below her little swing when she’s in it. Almost every day when I sit down to breastfeed after lunch he jumps up and cuddles right up to us. He’s actually cuddled up with the two of us as I write this!! He hates when she cries. He will run up when she starts crying as if to comfort her. It melts my heart. Also, Appa loves all of her things. He loves to sleep in her glider, constantly tries to steal her crib (don’t worry, we won’t let him), and lays on her play mat swinging his paws at the hanging toys. It’s precious.

I love this little munchkin so much. I can’t imagine my life without her!! We have been so incredibly blessed. I can’t wait to see the little person she grows into!!
