Milk Bath Photography – January 2018

Recently I couldn’t help but set up a “mini photo session” for my sweet girl. These trendy photo ops are taking over Pinterest, and I have no problem jumping on that band wagon! Milk baths are PRECIOUS.

I used half a gallon of milk, cuts from some fresh bouquets, two bedside lamps (with LED bulbs), and my iPhone!! It was beyond easy, and I am in love. I have a normal tub, with limited natural light from one window, but surprisingly that didn’t seem to effect my shots! You all will DEFINITELY be seeing more of these kinds of shoots.

I took dozens of amazing shots, but for now – enjoy these!!

DIY IKEA Kids Table Makeover

If you go on Pinterest and type in “kids table” you will see a dozen or so IKEA Hacks – where people buy IKEA’s $19.99 Latt Children’s Table and update the plain white and wooden set! There are some really cute ideas out there which inspired me to try it myself. It was fairly simple to do, and because I had so much of what I needed at home, fairly inexpensive. Here is what you will need to do this craft! (The items that I bought I listed the price of, but the rest I already had!)

Supplies List:

  • IKEA LATT Children’s Table $19.99
  • Paper Source – Birch Floral Paper $5.95
  • 0.08 Sheet of Plexiglass $10.97
  • White High Gloss Paint
  • Design Masters Gold Spray Paint
  • Painters Tape
  • Measuring Tape
  • Scissors
  • Sand Paper
  • Paint Brush
  • Brown Paler/Some Form of Drop Cloth

The first thing I did was spray paint the legs. I knew I wanted 3 inches of gold before the table was painted white. However, looking back I wish I had painted the table white and spray painted second. I think it would have given me cleaner lines. (On one of the table legs paint dripped down through the painters tape. It’s not the end of the world, but still not my favorite thing). Also, if you don’t follow my blog you should know that I use this spray paint for everything!! I am beyond obsessed with it. I used it for the first time in a dresser restoration project for the nursery, then for a nursery accent piece, and by now I’ve used it for a dozen other projects! I am so thrilled with how well it applies and endures. It’s an A+ product for sure.

Anyways, after I spray painted the legs I painted everything else white. It will be so much easier for you if you paint this before assembling it!! When it came to the table and chair legs I simply measured three inches from the base up and then used painters tape to section it off.

After everything is dry you can assemble it! It shouldn’t take you too long, it’s a fairly simple “instal.” The next part I had a surprising amount of difficulty. I had bought a gorgeous price of wrapping paper from Paper Source to be my tabletop. I had assumed I could just trace the table insert from IKEA. However, the notch that the table fits into when assembled was so tight I couldn’t even get my paper to slide in. What I ended up going was after the table was entirely assembled I pressed the paper into the four sides of the paper (so the extras were folded). Then I used a pen knife to trace out the paper. This worked well, but it took me way too long to come to that conclusion!

Lastly, I used plexiglass to “seal” the paper in. I bought a sheet at Lowes because I had read that they will cut it for free for you – and they do! They couldn’t notch out the corners (because of the construction of the table it’s not a perfect right angle rectangle) but they did trim it down to the right size! When I got home I just used a fine grit sandpaper to round off the corner edges and that worked perfectly! It’s supposed to be cut at 23 3/8″ by 17 3/8″ according to several blogs I read. For me, the plexiglass came out a tiny bit too big, but a little sanding made it perfect. I think that could have been from the man who cut it though! Apparently it was his first time.

I am so glad that I decided to go this route. Originally I was going to modge podge the table, but this is way better. The plexiglass will be super easy to clean off. Also, I can remove it whenever I like. This means I can replace the paper if it ever gets damaged- I also can change the paper out based on the season, holiday, or my mood! That’s actually why I chose a white base for my table. At first I was going to paint it a light blue, but then I realized I was just feeling it today. Who knows how I will feel next month! Instead I got the paper with blue. The white will match almost anything else I bring home in the future. Another thing I loved, but didn’t do was to cushion the seats. I was intending to, but then realized that a fabric would limit what I could do with the table top.

Once that plexiglass is laid down you’re all set! I am so obsessed with this table. Next weekend I am going to add paper and plexiglass to the chairs as well. They have the same build as the table, so you would literally follow those instructions, just on a smaller scale. Once I try it I will add my measurements to this post!

If you decide to try this make sure you tag me- @wifetalk. I would love to see what creative ideas you come up with. It’s so fun to support each other!

More Family Photos (From Our First Time Homeowners Photoshoot)!

Last week I blogged about our First Home Photoshoot with SwakPhotography. I am so obsessed with her photos and I only shared a handful of the DOZENS of golden images she gave us… So it’s not surprising that I am posting a follow up with more images!! In particular, of my sweet sweet baby girl & our little family in her new nursery. My only regret is not pulling the cats in!
Nolie was so funny during our session. Carrie arrived for our shoot around three, seconds after little Miss woke up from her nap… so her facial expressions range from wildly surprised to extremely confused then on to giggling then bored. She also looked SO concerned in a few outdoor photos when several loud trucks went by. She was so distracted! Even though I had envisioned her just laughing non stop for our entire shoot (yeah I know, totally realistic expectations of a five and a half month old), I am actually so much happier that we caught so many of her adorable expressions. She is such a curious and intelligent baby. I love watching her explore the world and try to understand everything around her. It’s really humbling in a way. Her genuine astonishment makes me appreciate everything so much more.
Anyways, I hope y’all enjoy these precious images. Also, Carrie is so much fun to work with and one of my favorite photographers! I love her style- it’s unique and elegant. Definitely check out her Instagram to see what I’m talking about !(: Also stay tuned, one of my other favorite photographers (Soph) has offered to do a little lifestyle shoot of the fam bam! It’s going to be so sentimental to look back on after we have done some of the more serious house renovations we have planned!

“Pink-A-Boo”

Having a baby girl is amazing for a thousand reasons… but one huge one is the adorable clothes! It’s like having a little doll to dress up everyday. (But with a lot more drool). Luckily my sweet girl doesn’t mind all the bows and frills. In fact, when she is bored I just change her outfits and put her in front of the mirror and she stares with wonder! It’s so cute to watch her realize that it’s herself in the mirror every time.

My current favorite outfit is one of her pajama sets by Kate Spade. I think the soft pink and white make her look so cuddly!

I also love the detailing. There are pink bows on the sleeves and then adorable ruffles on her cute booty.  It’s so precious!! The shirt reads “pink-a-boo” and the pants have clouds and sheep.  This is definitely one that I’ll keep for her to pass on to her future daughter.

She’s just too cute not to post a hundred pictures of! Hopefully this adorable, smart girl has brightened your day!

Walmart Infant Baby Box

A few weeks ago I wrote about Walmart’s Baby Box Set. They send you three different gift boxes- one for prenatal, one for a baby, and one for a toddler. Each box contains samples and costs only the five dollars for shipping. Last week I received the second box, my infant box. It contained the following samples and coupons:
Samples:

  • Arm & Hammer Sensitive Laundry Detergent (2.25 fl oz)
  • Aveeno Baby Lotion (1 fl oz)
  • Aveeno Lotion (1 fl oz)
  • Huggies Travel Wipes pack (8 count)
  • Mam Anti-colic bottle
  • 1 Huggies Diaper (size newborn)

Coupons :

  • $3 off huggies diapers
  • $1 off Arm & Hammer Sensitive Laundry Detergent
  • $3 off Pure Bliss formula by Similac
  • $2.50 off of Lysol

We are already fans of Aveeno so I liked the samples! However, I don’t think we will end up using the bottle because I breastfeed and the few times we have used a bottle she likes the Phillips brand. So it was cool, but in this box’s case probably not worth the five dollars it cost to ship. I could have just bought an actual bottle of lotion! That said, I do love getting mail though, so not a total waste haha.
I can’t wait to see what the third and final box contains!!

Happy Days

This past weekend we had a very interesting Saturday! We woke up and got ready to be picked up by my dad to head down to the farmers market. On the way downtown I was informed we were going to make a “quick” stop to “catch” some sort of rare Pokémon.

The weather was gorgeous and the baby was smiling so I thought, why not! (Plus, we ended up having a great photo opportunity). We headed down to the Vanderbilt football stadium. They did some sort of battle and next thing I know we are headed down to a different park downtown. Three hours later we were finally at the farmers market! We made it with five minutes to spare, the milk stand was almost closed!

After that we swung by 3rd and Demonbreum to Bakersfield Tacos. We placed an order to go and then jumped back in the car and headed down to an Asian Market off of Charolette. We wandered around and had a blast looking at all of the fun items.

The highlight of this stop was when we were wandering around the Chinese section. If you remember, last year I spent part of my summer in China. (You can read about it here). Before I left I asked Michael what he wanted me to bring back. He said he didn’t care, but he was just sad he didn’t get to try all the food. So over the course of the trip I slowly filled my suitcase with different foods to bring home. Some of the things I brought home I had zero idea what they were. I went to a grocery store and just picked out random things from aisles. When I got home Michael was a great sport and tried them all. Well this weekend I recognized one item I brought home that Michael reported to be particularly stinky. At this grocery store there were English translations on the price card. Apparently I brought Michael home pickled jelly fish! For some reason he wasn’t as excited to learn that as me.

The day ended in laughter as we headed home from there. We had such a wonderful time and the weather was perfect. Hot, but not humid. The sun was shining and I was so thankful to be out and about.

Two Month Update

I'm a little late on the update, however, this little one crested two months!! It's so insane to me. I can't believe she's so old. She has made every day even more exciting than the last. We are so lucky!

Month two saw her first smile, her first time rolling over, her first road trip, her first apartment fire, and so much more. She has become her own person! She is so strong and engaged in life. It's amazing. I am loving watching her personality develop.

One of my favorite things about her is how much she loves the outdoors. If she gets too fussy you can carry her outside and she calms down as soon as the sun or breeze hits her. I also love how much she wants me! I love that when she's upset she reaches for me, that when others hold her she turns to my voice, and that she's happiest when it's the two of us cuddling! She is everything I could have ever wanted.

At her two month appointment they told us she weighs 10 pounds and one ounce. She is measuring at 21 inches and 7 cm. The doctor said she was incredibly strong too! They said she was in the 10th percentile all the way around- length, weight, and head.

I can't wait to see what crazy developments month three brings! She is the greatest blessing in our life. Our little monkey, our little buttercup, our roly poly Nolie.
